The mother village.
Ancestral seat of the Manggarai royal lineage. The sacred Tambur Todo drums — 400 years old — are still kept here.
Before Waerebo. Before Bena. There was Todo. The ancestral seat of the Manggarai kings, home to 400-year-old sacred drums — and one of the most authentic cultural days left in Flores. Elder welcome ceremony, ikat weavers at the loom, home-cooked highland lunch, and the Cunca Plias waterfall that almost nobody reaches.

Yet Todo is where the Manggarai story begins.

Kept small — even when demand says otherwise.
Photography is welcomed — except inside the sacred compound. Knowing when to put the camera down is part of the visit.
Twelve hours door-to-door. Every hour carries weight.
How we visit. Cover shoulders and knees in the sacred compound (sarong provided). Ask before photographing people. The village can close to outside guests during rituals — when they do, we reschedule or refund. This is their home first, always.
Our rate is agreed with the village council — 70% flows directly back to families, weavers, and the Todo heritage fund.
Up to 8 travelers sharing a 4WD. Always capped — even at busy times.
Your family/group only. Longer pauses, sunrise ritual access (on request + elder approval).
*Subject to village council approval and community calendar.
Book Private Journey"We almost defaulted to Waerebo — I'm so grateful we came here instead. The elder told us about the drums for 30 minutes and I understood more about Flores than I had in a week."
"I bought a songke cloth from the weaver who made it. She showed me the symbols — the one for family, for ancestors, for protection. It's not a souvenir. It's a contract."
"Cunca Plias was the moment I stopped taking photos and just sat. Twelve hours felt like one. Best single day of our 3-week Indonesia trip."
